    Faith

EISD is a school rooted in an inclusive Islamic faith ethos. We take pride in our faith, its values, and its emphasis on a shared humanity, viewing the world as one family for which we all hold responsibility. Our interpretation of the Islamic faith is progressive, outward-facing, inclusive, and globally-oriented.

Our core mission is to equip all our students to live their lives according to values such as self-discipline, compassion, mutual respect, and reverence for the earth. These values are fundamental to both the Islamic faith and the Bangladeshi way of life. We strive to celebrate the richness of faith and foster a sense of belonging and joy within our local and broader communities.

At our school, we embrace an inclusive approach to faith, welcoming individuals of all faiths and none, recognizing the collective contribution to something greater than ourselves. Character development is central to our ethos, where we emphasize values like respect, care, tolerance, self-discipline, and love for one another. We aim to instill an ethical lifestyle, empowering our learners to fulfill their responsibilities to themselves, their families, humanity, and the environment.

Irrespective of religious beliefs, our goal is to prepare all our students to become high-achieving, actively engaged citizens in the multicultural landscape of 21st-century Bangladesh. For our Muslim students, we endeavour to guide them in applying faith values in their daily lives as committed and tolerant members of Bangladeshi society. We aspire for them to embody model Bangladeshi citizenship, inspired by faith to uphold fundamental Bangladeshi values, reject extremism, and thrive within Bangladeshi society. Through their actions, we aim to showcase the positive contributions that the Muslim faith can make to Bangladeshi life and culture.

We are an independent institution and not associated/affiliated with – or subscribe to the views of – any faith organisation or movement.

    Partnership With Parents

We place significant importance on parental involvement in their child’s education. A strong partnership between the school and parents, with active parental engagement, plays a crucial role in fostering students’ personal, academic, and emotional development during their formative years at the school.

    Parents are instrumental in:

    • Monitoring learning: Regularly discussing their child’s learning progress, homework, and academic achievements.
    • Fostering values and character: Supporting their child’s personal growth and encouraging the development of positive character traits.
    • Supporting organization: Assisting their child in being well-prepared for success by ensuring they have the necessary equipment, uniform, and punctuality.
    • Motivating and raising aspirations: Inspiring their child to reach their full potential and pursue their aspirations.

We believe that our collaborative approach with parents significantly contributes to our success. Our dedication to pastoral care and ensuring individual attention for every student ensures parents that their child will thrive in our safe and nurturing learning environment.

    Home-School Agreement:

All parents and guardians are required to sign a Home-School Agreement, outlining our commitment to their child’s education and specifying expectations regarding commitment, attendance, and behavior.

    Regular Communication:

We prioritize effective communication and are committed to providing parents with regular, accurate, and useful updates. Parents are encouraged to contact the school with any questions or inquiries, and we strive to assist them promptly

    Newsletters:

We publish regular newsletters to keep pupils, staff, and parents informed about school activities and events. These include a Student Newsletter issued every term.

    Text Messaging Service:

The school utilizes text messages to remind parents of important information, deadlines, and events such as revision classes or after-school clubs. In case of emergencies or closures, parents are promptly notified via text message.

    Progress Communication:

We ensure parents are informed of their child’s progress through half-termly report cards, school parents’ evenings, and Performance Review Meetings with senior leaders for students at risk of not meeting their targets.

    Student Planners:

Every student receives a Student Planner at the start of the academic year, which includes a homework record and space for academic levels and targets. Parents are expected to check and sign the planner weekly.

    Concerns or Complaints:

The school is committed to addressing parents’ concerns sensitively and promptly. Parents can approach Heads of Year or members of the Senior Leadership Team, and a formal Complaints Policy is available for unresolved issues.

    Visiting the school:

During normal working hours, all visitors, including parents, are required to report to Reception, sign in, and wear a visitor badge. Appointments should be made in advance for meetings with staff members.

    Safeguarding & Child Protection

We take safeguarding very seriously. The school has clear policies and procedures to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.

We ensure staff have the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to keep children safe through provision of regular training on child protection issues. Our staff are trained to be vigilant for all kinds of safeguarding concerns, including bullying, online safety, emotional or other abuse or extremist behaviour. We have clear procedures in place where any potential safeguarding concerns are identified. We share information with other public bodies – within agreed protocols.

As part of the school’s safeguarding measures, we also ensure our pupils are not exposed to inappropriate political or controversial messages. Through our pursuit to develop exemplary citizens, we promote fundamental Bangladeshi values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.  In line with this, we ensure all expressed views and actions contrary to these values are challenged.

Online Safety – Advice for Parents

While our school implements comprehensive safeguarding measures to ensure the online safety of our students, it is equally vital for parents to engage in conversations about online safety and monitor their children’s internet usage at home. Utilizing age-appropriate parental controls can help restrict access to inappropriate content on home broadband, search engines, YouTube, mobile phones, and gaming consoles.

Although discussing challenging topics such as cyberbullying and adult content with your child may be difficult, being open and honest about the potential dangers of online activities can encourage them to confide in you in the future. If you notice your child being secretive or spending excessive time online, consider relocating their computer to a communal family area for better supervision.

Encourage your child to behave responsibly online, treating others with respect and kindness. Remind them not to hide behind anonymous usernames to make hurtful comments and to be cautious about the permanence of their online actions, as posts and interactions may have a wider audience than anticipated

It’s important to note that children under the age of 13 should not be using social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr, as stated in the sites’ terms and conditions. However, it’s easy for them to create accounts by falsely claiming to be older. If your child does have a social media account, emphasize the importance of using enhanced privacy settings to limit access to friends only. Warn them against accepting friend requests from strangers and encourage them to add you or a trusted individual as a friend or follower for monitoring purposes

    Attendance

    Be a Gem!

It’s essential for all parents to champion good attendance and collaborate with the school to ensure that learning opportunities are fully utilized. We all share the desire to provide the best for our children, nurturing and supporting them along their educational journey. Maintaining an outstanding attendance record significantly contributes to this objective. By working together, we can provide students with every opportunity to achieve their academic and social potential.

Every day a child misses school increases the risk of falling behind academically and feeling socially isolated. Therefore, it’s crucial for each student to aim for 100% attendance, with a minimum target of 97%. In exceptional circumstances, such as long-term illness supported by medical evidence, the school will establish a personalized attendance target in collaboration with the student and parents. We understand and appreciate unique challenges, and we are committed to supporting students in achieving their attendance goals while celebrating their successes.

    Why is good attendance important?

Good attendance and punctuality are vital for success at school, and to establish positive life habits that are necessary for future success

    Through regular attendance, pupils can:

    •     Build friendships and allow young people to feel part of a community
    •     Develop life skills and self-discipline
    •     Engage in learning and enjoy academic success
    •     Minimise the risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour or feeling isolated.

We should not underestimate the importance of excellent attendance and being punctual. Even one day missed can have a negative effect on learning.

    Behavior

Our approach to behavior and discipline can be described as “tough love”. We operate a firm but fair approach. We enforce these principles rigorously, robustly, and consistently to maintain a conducive learning environment where the actions of a few do not hinder the progress of the majority. Clear expectations are outlined in the Codes of Conduct for Staff and Students as well as the Home-School Agreement to ensure transparency and accountability.

    Rewards and Sanctions

Every student is special and we regularly identify, reward and celebrate their many successes. These successes can be in any aspect of school life. They include rewards for regular attendance, outstanding achievement or making a good contribution to the local community.

We use a wide range of rewards, ranging from simply saying “Well done!” to issuing certificates and prizes. We hold regular celebration assemblies and special events to celebrate the achievements of our students.

If standards at the school are to be maintained, it is equally important to have a clear, consistent sanctions system.

    Uniform

The school fosters a culture of excellence and ambition in all aspects of its students’ endeavours. Its uniform is meticulously crafted to embody this ethos of excellence, blending sophistication with practicality. By wearing the uniform, students are encouraged to embrace their affiliation with the school proudly, serving as representatives of the esteemed Emerald educational experience. Additionally, the uniform projects a professional and business-oriented image.

Adherence to high standards of presentation is required at all times when donning the school uniform, with clean attire, neat hair, and minimal jewellery. Whenever the school uniform is worn, it must be complete and not mixed with non-uniform clothing. This includes when travelling to and from the school.

Our uniforms can be purchased from the designated school tailor. Please note that there is a modest option available for female students for parents seeking such.
